Most Unusual "Drive Through" Establishments
Saying 'I Do' at the drive through? It's the usual order at hundreds of drive through establishments in Sin City where 'would you like fries with that?' isn't always what you'll expect at the pickup window. Some of the most unusual drive through establishments are cropping up all over the country, offering drivers convenience and efficiency with or without a meal to go.
From marriage chapels to dry cleaners, the pickup window may soon become your top spot for running errands. Here are just a few of the most unusual drive through establishments you may encounter on that next errand run:
1. Marriage chapels. You'll stumble across an abundance of these in Las Vegas, the marriage capital of the nation. Drive through wedding windows are a daily affair in places like A Special Memory Wedding Chapel, Tunnel of Love and Little White Wedding Chapel in Nevada.
2. Dry cleaning services. From the local Laundromat to the chain store dry cleaning company, it's just fast and convenient to pick up your order from the window on your way home from work. Many drycleaners offer regular customers an ID tag or badge so that they can send out your order as quickly as possible, and touchscreen services are on the rise.
3. Drive thru banking. While the automated teller machines have always been a standard service at most banks, the drive up window is getting smarter and more efficient; extended services are now offered with access to a teller on videoscreens. Touchscreen services also make the process much easier, and quick-service banking is quickly becoming a top choice for many customers.
4. Drive thru Starbucks. What was once a counter-only establishment, Starbucks has joined the fast food nation by offering a complete menu at the pickup window. Drivers can enjoy a triple-espresso-mocha-no-whip to go without having to step foot in the cafe. Baked treats and frozen drinks also make the menu, some with touchscreen ordering for easy ordering.
5. Drive thru liquor stores are scattered throughout the Southern states. Texas is the nation's leading state with the highest number of drive-thru liquor stores-with plenty of state patrol agents manning the area, it's also the state with a record numbers of drinking and driving tickets.
6. Drive-thru pharmacies. Walgreen's leads the way with this trend, offering prescription pickup and drop-offs at the window, but more and more local pharmacies are building a small window to accommodate customer orders with ease.
7. Oil changes. Oil change and vehicle servicing companies such as Valvoline offer the convenience of oil changes while drivers stay in their car; while it's not a typical 'pickup' window, drivers do enjoy the convenience of not leaving their car during services. Valvoline also offers complimentary newspapers and coffee.
8. Drive thru cocktails and bar. The Waikiki drive-through bar in Hawaii offers travelers and locals alike a chance to swing by the tiki bar and pick up their favorite drinks. Converted from former fast food chains, these types of bars offer a convenient way to enjoy that Mai Tai.
9. Drive thru Goodwill. Instead of making a purchase here, Goodwill Industries offers convenient drop off windows to donate clothing, accessories and goods. The pickup station makes it easy for drivers to stay in their car while an attendant transports the donation from the trunk.
The future of the drive through looks promising; with advancements in touchscreen technology, digital services and retail industries adapting to efficiency, there may soon be a place for most retail and service stores. Newsstands, video rentals and even grocery stores are pushing ahead with new ways to keep their customers: supersize DVDs, anyone?
