- When I imagine my favorite celebrities and the cars they drive, I picture them tooling around Tinseltown in multi-thousand dollar luxury cars like Bentleys, Rolls Royces and in BMWs. Driving a Cadillac or a Lincoln would be quite a few steps up for me, a far elevation from my Ford sedan. But I imagine when it comes to the rich and famous, only the most unsuccessful would drive cars like these. Or the most conservative. In reality, the stars's rides are sometimes more elegant than you can possibly imagine. Other times, they're much simpler than you would expect. Although I'm not a real big sports fan, this seven-foot-one-inch, 325-pound Basketball legend is impressive because he drives one of the fanciest cars around: a Rolls-Royce Phantom. When he joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the late 90s, he had signed a seven-year contract that would rake him in a cool $122 million. That income alone could have bought Shaquille O'Neal an entire fleet of Rolls-Royce Phantoms.
Britney Spears I'm not a Britney Spears fan, but her popularity never seems to wane. According to Yahoo!, her name was the most popular search term in 2006. She grabbed the #3 spot on The Lycos 50 Top 10 Search Terms for 2007 too. That means someone out there likes her.
Britney Spears' choice of wheels reflects her success as a sexy Pop Star. She picked one of the ten most expensive cars in the world- a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The base price for this car is $452,750. I can't imagine spending that much money on a house, much less a car, can you?
Arnold Schwarzenegger Now he's garnering attention because he's the governor of California. In his past career, Arnold Schwarzenegger got the attention of fans by earning the title of "Mr. Universe." Later he became a Box Office star for playing the roles of tough-guys in movies like Terminator. So what does a rugged, muscle-bound man like Arnold prefer to drive? According to Bankrate.com, in 2003, he owned eight General Motors Hummers. Arnold Schwarzenegger can certainly afford to drive a more-expensive vehicle. But, the powerful Hummer does match up with his mighty physique.
Leonardo DiCaprio Leonardo DiCaprio is one of my favorite celebrities. Even though he's enjoyed his share of Hollywood success, I can't picture him driving a big, expensive car. He just doesn't fit the image. A $22,000 Toyota Prius hybrid better suits the "Titanic" star. Reportedly, Cameron Diaz and musician Billy Joel are also environmentalists who drive these economical cars.
Certainly another advantage in being a celebrity and driving a Toyota is you would attract less attention from the public when you're driving out and about. As long as you stay away from the luxury cars, that is.
David Beckham This English professional football player is adored by sports fans in the United States and "across the pond" as well. David Beckham, a Right Winger on the Soccer field, reportedly owns a $22 million Beverly Hills mansion. As for what this favorite celebrity drives around, he owns a Hummer, a Lincoln Navigator and a dozen other cars.
Funny thing is, David Beckham can't have a lot of time to chauffeur himself around. According to a Fox Sports report, in 2007 alone, he flew more than 250,000 miles... and created 163 tons of carbon dioxide. Maybe David should consider climbing on the environmental bandwagon and buy himself a horse instead.
