Please ensure that your Zoombak is powered on during this period to ensure the update is successfully delivered. If you log into your account before zoombak automatically upgrades your device you can select the upgrade button to request an update immediately. The upgrade process will take about 6-8 minutes and once complete your zoombak will be fully functional with new Zoombak speed features.

1. What is Speed Reporting?

Offering our customers Speed is part of our continuous efforts to improve the usability and functionality of your Zoombak device and service.

When you initiate an on-demand locate and your device is moving 15 miles an hour or over, the speed your device is traveling will be included along with the usual address information.  It will also include the direction the device is heading.  If your device is moving under 15 miles per hour, speed and direction will not be reported.  This is to eliminate any erroneous speed reporting since GPS speed is not accurate under 15 miles per hour.

2. What are Speed Alerts?

With the new Zoombak Speed function you can be alerted by text message and/or email when your Zoombak device exceeds a certain speed.  This is particularly useful when monitoring teen drivers or employee vehicles.  Simply click the “Speed” tab on the Zoombak web interface to set up your alerts.  First select the speed limit, then your alert schedule, and notification options (email, text message).  NOTE: Speed alerts significantly drain your Zoombak’s power due to the constant checking of the device’s speed.   If you want to monitor speed 24/7 it is recommended that you hardwire your Zoombak device to your car’s battery using the Zoombak Install Kit.  If you choose to keep your device portable and continuously track speed, your device battery should last approximately 11 hours from a full charge.  Your text speed alert will look like: (email alert will be similar)

3. How Speed Alerts Work

You will be promptly alerted when the Zoombak device exceeds the speed you set in your Speed Limit. Zoombak will continue to plot the vehicle with both the location and speed which will be available in Historical Tracking. You will NOT be alerted again until the Zoombak device drops below your set Speed Limit and exceeds it again. However, if you set the Speed Limit too close to the driver's target speed, you may experience a "toggling" effect (as the car repeatedly drops below and exceeds the set Speed Limit), which would generate a rapid series of alert messages. To avoid getting multiple alerts, you might consider setting the Speed Limit alert to your highest tolerable speed; or in the event closer monitoring is desired, be prepared to modify the set Speed Limit if you are receiving repeated alerts. As an additional safeguard, Zoombak reserves the right to temporarily disable the Speed alert function in the event that greater than 20 alerts are generated in any 15 minute period (you will receive an email notice with instructions on how to reengage the alert function).

4. How to test your Speed Alerts

Once you have completed your speed alert setups you are ready to test the alerts.  Take your Zoombak device in your vehicle and exceed the speed limit you set for alerting  (do not break any local speed laws in your area and be sure to obey posted speed limits).  You may want to consider setting your limit to 20 MPH to test and then reset the limit to your desired alert level (i.e. over 55 MPH).  Once your receive the text message and/or email alert you know the speed alert is setup and working properly.
